Maximum stuff is typically better quality. The 'Maximum' name replaced the old 'Professional' moniker as CT's higher line of tools, though since the advent of Maximum things have gone downhill a bit (but you can say that for a lot of tools in general, Mastercraft/CT and otherwise). It's all made in China these days anyway, lol. Still, unless you know for sure that the non-Maximum is the same quality as the Maximum, I would stick with what you have. For $13 extra I would stick with what you have. As a side note, torque wrenches don't really have full lifetime warranties. Well they might in terms of the metal and ratchet/mechanism, but calibration is usually not covered under warranty.

Nov 3rd, 2010 11:53 amI bought a Mastercraft Maximum 1/2' drive torque wrench for torquing wheel bolts, for $67.99 Now I notice that the Mastercraft (non-Maximum) 1/2' drive torque wrench will be going on sale for $54.99. Since I'm an RFD'er, I might as well save the $13. What's the difference between them? I'm not going to be running a shop, only for torquing tire wheel bolts for several cars twice a year. They both have lifetime warranty. Thoughts Wrong, Mastercraft never comes with lifetime warranty. Their tools are always below avg.

If all you need is to torque your tires, they're fine. But dont use it on any engine parts. Nov 3rd, 2010 2:39 pm Canadian Tire Warranty: Lifetime material and workmanship warranty; 90 day calibration warranty LOL, I dunno how that guy came out of the woodwork but yeah I added him to my ignore list a long time ago but haven't seen him post in a long time. Now he seems to be spamming the threads with his usual misinformation again I mean everyone is wrong once in a while but that guy is always talking pure nonsense. Mastercraft hand tools all have lifetime warranty, anyone/everyone that knows the first thing about tools knows that. Nov 3rd, 2010 7:37 pmAlthough I don't much like CT's service, they really honor the warranty and give you free exchange.

I had at least 4 times got my broken hand tools exchanged without questions. Last time was few months ago. I walked in with my broken ratchet. They checked and said the thing is obsolete. Next thing I was told to go to the tool cabinet and grab any 1/2' ratchet for free. I grabbed a nice one and walked out of the door impressed. I've broken Mastercraft screwdrivers and side cutters in the past and also had no problem exchanging them for brand new ones.

My dad has also broken ratchets and other random hand tools and CT is really good about honoring their lifetime warranty. As for the torque wrench, I'd stick with the Maximum one. If I recall it is a bit longer which is nice because it gives you a little more leverage. Went to torque the wheel nuts on my van to 92 ft/lbs and it broke on the second nut and it didn't even make it to the 92 ft/lbs I needed. I returned it and got my money back and bought a Proto J6014C and haven't had any problems with it yet. We use the same Proto ones at work and they get used approx 10 times or more everyday and none of them have failed either.
